My grandmother and mother came to the United States as refugees from Vietnam in 1975. This is a zine that I created to document this family history.

This Zine was not only informative but also extremely captivating. Diving into first hand experiences from your bà ngoại made me emotional whilst telling an important story of her loss and pain. Along with the stories, the pictures are also fascinating because they reflect the personality, resilience, and the hope that was born despite every impediment. I often find myself trying to tell my story and the story of my family and I think this is a great way to do so. Thank you!

I think your project truly encapsulated this idea that the bridging of separate cultures and lifestyles is not always a painless story, but even so, it can be one of empowerment and resilience. Thank you for sharing your family’s story and in turn, a part of you.

Your project really embodied this idea that the story of one culture meeting another isn’t always a painless one, but even so, there’s still so much resilience and empowerment to be found. Thank you for sharing your family’s story and in turn, a part of you.
