corriendo con mis ancestros - running with my ancestors

corriendo con mis ancestros - running with my ancestors

January 31, 2019

By Mellissa Linton Villafranco

This immersive audio file narrates the 1975 Salvadoran National University (UES) Massacre Commemoration march on July 30, 2018. Mellissa participated in the 2018 Radical Roots delegation, and joined twenty other Salvadorans from the U.S. diaspora in a powerful trip to San Salvador to meet with FMLN representatives and grassroots activists. This delegation was facilitated by CISPES (The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador). The march, from the perspective of the Salvadoran diaspora, was an embodied act of historical memory, as the march route followed and re-enacted the 1975 massacre. The audio from the march attests to the persistent and everlasting energy of student activists and beyond. It also demonstrates a transnational connecting point for Salvadoran nationals, and those live and organize in the U.S. diaspora.
